Identifying and validating ontology mappings by formal concept analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
As a well developed mathematical model for analyzing individuals and structuring concepts, Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) has been applied to ontology matching (OM) tasks since the beginning of OM research, whereas ontological knowledge exploited in FCA-based methods is limited. The study in this paper aims to empowering FCA with as much as ontological knowledge as possible for identifying and validating mappings across ontologies. Our method, called FCA-Map, constructs three types of formal contexts and extracts mappings from the lattices derived. Firstly, the token-based formal context describes how class names, labels and synonyms share lexical tokens, leading to lexical mappings (anchors) across ontologies. Secondly, the relation-based formal context describes how classes are in taxonomic, partonomic and disjoint relationships with the anchors, leading to positive and negative structural evidence for validating the lexical matching. Lastly, after incoherence repair, the positive relationbased context can be used to discover additional structural mappings. Evaluation on anatomy track and large biomedical ontologies track of the 2015 Ontology Alignment Evaluation Initiative (OAEI) campaign demonstrates the effectiveness of FCA-Map and its competitiveness with 2015 OAEI top-ranked OM systems.

Matching biomedical ontologies based on formal concept analysis
BACKGROUND The goal of ontology matching is to identify correspondences between entities from different yet overlapping ontologies so as to facilitate semantic integration, reuse and interoperability. As a well developed mathematical model for analyzing individuals and structuring concepts, Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) has been applied to ontology matching (OM) tasks since the beginning of OM ...

FCA-Map is an automatic ontology matching system based on Formal Concept Analysis (FCA), which is a well developed mathematical model for analyzing individuals and structuring concepts. More precisely, we construct three types of formal contexts and extracts mappings from the lattices derived. Firstly, token-based formal context describes how class names, labels and synonyms share lexical token...
متن کاملReasoning about Ontology Mappings
The use of logic-based representations in distributed environments such as the semantic web has lead to work on the representation of and reasoning with mappings between distributed ontologies. Up to now the investigation of reasoning methods in this area was restricted to the use of mapping for query answering or subsumption reasoning. In this paper, we investigate the task of reasoning about ...
متن کاملIdentifying and Eliminating Inconsistencies in Mappings across Hierarchical Ontologies
Recent years have seen a rapid proliferation of information sources e.g., on the World-wide Web, in virtually every area of human endeavor. Such autonomous information sources are based on different ontologies, i.e., conceptualizations of the entities, properties, and relationships in the respective domains of discourse. However, practical applications (e.g., building predictive models from dis...
متن کاملMapping Analysis in Ontology-based Data Access: Algorithms and Complexity (Extended Abstract)
Ontology-based data access (OBDA) is a recent paradigm for accessing data sources through an ontology that acts as a conceptual, integrated view of the data, and declarative mappings that connect the ontology to the data sources. We study the formal analysis of mappings in OBDA. Specifically, we focus on the problem of identifying mapping inconsistency and redundancy, two of the most important ...
